My Experience of Curing Insomnia : 5 Ways to Cure Insomnia Naturally Without Medication

How beautiful it is to fall asleep like a sweet baby's sleep😀

How to cure insomnia at night is not easy, I have experienced symptoms of insomnia since starting undergraduate studies in 2005. I didn't know at all what the cause was at that time, maybe because I had never experienced it. When I was in high school and middle school, I had no problems sleeping, it was comfortable and I didn't stay up late.

At first I didn't realize that I was suffering from severe insomnia or chronic insomnia. I know I can't close my eyes, my mind seems to keep going and something just remembers. Not just two nights but almost every night. Until 2010, sometimes the insomnia got worse, where I couldn't sleep until morning.  It turns out that insomnia does not only occur in teenagers but also in older people. My neighbor, a man in Jogja, also has insomnia, even worse than me. He hadn't slept at night in several years and was part of an insomniac community.

Here I just realized that insomnia is a disorder and a situation that is less than normal. Normally the body rests at night, if your eyes can't close it means something is wrong.

3 Impacts of Insomnia That I Feel

1. You always wake up late and your body aches. I really want to find out how to fall asleep quickly and wake up in the morning fresh and full of enthusiasm like other people.  I tried to sleep early around 20.00 WIB but it was still difficult, it was 2 in the morning or even 3 before I could close my eyes.

2. Unproductive. Every night when I don't get enough sleep, I sometimes cover my rest time with a nap, but this actually makes my insomnia worse. Insomnia has hampered various activities during the day due to the extra hours of naps.

3. Weight loss, pale and unhealthy. The eyes are also tired and red, I'm sleepy but I can't fall asleep. Sometimes accompanied by headaches and dizziness. Apart from that, my weight also continues to decrease, perhaps due to metabolism and an unhealthy lifestyle due to insomnia.

5 Ways to Cure Insomnia Naturally Without Medication that I Have Ever Tried

When I felt like I couldn't stand it and was really tormented because my body was weak every day, I intended to buy insomnia medicine at the pharmacy. I asked a friend who worked in a pharmacy and had also bought sleeping pills at the shop, but they still didn't work well. Not much change. Then one of my friends suggested that I stop taking sleeping pills because I wasn't sleeping naturally, afraid that it would cause new health problems.

In 2009, my friends and family took me to a traditional massage therapy place specifically for insomnia. They all took part in the massage, the only part that was massaged was the soles of the feet. I don't really remember what the name of the insomnia massage therapy is, but it's Chinese or Japanese style where there is no drug consumption at all. The therapist only massages the soles of the feet and then the body feels light.

The massage therapist told me that there was a man who had not been able to sleep for years. He stayed in therapy for several weeks and thank God he was able to return to his normal activities. Unfortunately I have moved to another island and also lost contact with my friend. I have had massage at least twice with different therapies to overcome insomnia and I immediately felt sleepy and wanted to sleep right then and there. It's just that, when I moved to a big city I was confused about where to find a therapist like that.

Actually, I didn't do much therapy or seek treatment here and there. Apart from not wanting to depend on treatment, I don't have enough money for it. I found the secret to recovery, freedom and quickly overcoming insomnia by accident. On this occasion, I just want to recommend 5 ways to cure insomnia naturally without medication, namely:

1. Find out why I can't fall asleep and fix it

Before thinking about looking for medicine, whether traditional or chemical, it's a good idea to first identify the causes of insomnia. Why is that? Not being able to fall asleep often comes from factors within the individual himself. Other people can sleep normally, why can't I? What's wrong with me?

So first, get to know the condition of the body which also consists of soul and mind. Is there something wrong or not quite right? If the cause is identified, a solution will be found. If the cause is not known how to overcome it and recover. It will definitely happen again and again. In my opinion, broadly speaking there are two causes of insomnia, namely:

First, it comes from unhealthy habits. Sometimes we don't realize that some habits make it difficult to sleep at night. Because we are used to it, we don't recognize that this is the cause of sleep disorders. For example, always playing on your smartphone before going to bed or even watching late into the night.  There are also those who might be on the phone with their partner until early in the morning, of course not being able to sleep.

If this is the case, try to be wiser for your own health. When it's time to rest, use it to rest. Don't make it a habit to open social media before bed so you don't get addicted and spend time late. If you can't fall asleep, don't escape by watching because it will actually keep your eyes awake all night.

Second, restless soul and mind. Usually because there are things that worry or burden the mind. Maybe it has serious problems. When you have fears and problems that need to be resolved, the hormones in your body will be alert and make you alert. It's not surprising that your eyes can't sleep, you'll always have something to think about. Whether it's just regretting fate, thinking about solutions and so on.

In most cases, this second point is the factor that causes insomnia. Insomnia due to stress or depression. This cannot be cured if it is not successful in reducing it. Taking sedatives is not always good and there may be harm that will occur later. For causes of insomnia like this, I recommend using the therapies which will be discussed in points 2,3,4 and 5 below.

2. Do relaxation, contemplation or meditation

After I studied further, the cause of my insomnia was a problem of the mind and spirit. I was unstable because I was facing many problems, namely experiencing financial problems and being in debt.  Insomnia is getting worse because I am also far from God. I then learned how to overcome insomnia according to Islam. Insomnia according to Islam can actually be cured in a simple way and there is no need to take chemical sleeping pills.

Many people panic because they want a quick way to sleep when they have insomnia, they want a way to sleep soundly and immediately have sweet dreams. Maybe there are people who go for treatment for insomnia in Malaysia, Singapore or do many ways to get better and be free from insomnia. Is there a special prayer for insomniacs? There is a special prayer for an anxious heart but I don't pray to get to sleep quickly, just the usual prayer before going to sleep.

I do Islamic relaxation and meditation. The first thing I did was contemplation, namely contemplating the nature of life. Remembering how much sustenance and grace God has given us from birth until now. Looking at my life from past to present. Review your duties as a servant and try to be sincere and surrender to life today and in the future. That way, there is nothing more to worry about. I accompany it by listening to tausiah or Islamic lectures about short life and so on.

Other relaxation can include visiting tourist attractions such as beaches or city parks. Be alone for a moment, feel the breeze and see His beautiful creation. Close your eyes and feel something calm and serene. Usually feelings and thoughts get better. Or if you rarely go to the mosque, try coming to pray and then cry in front of Allah. The heart will become calmer, especially if accompanied by the chanting of the holy verses of the Koran.

So, in my case, the reason why I had difficulty sleeping and suffered from insomnia was probably because my faith had decreased so that it was easily controlled by life's problems. The cure for insomnia in Islam in situations like this is very simple and cheap, namely getting closer, resting and being one with nature.  Also listen to therapeutic instrumental music specifically for relaxation, this is quite helpful in making the mind feel light and the soul feel comfortable.

3. Learn to protect your heart and mind from conflict

Apart from meditation and relaxation, avoid fighting that makes you regret it, don't look for problems with other people. Previously, I often experienced conflicts with my younger siblings. This makes me even worse. Harmonious relationships with humans will help health, including good sleep.

Reflecting on experience, every time there is a problem or quarrel with someone close to me, I definitely can't sleep. Therefore, it is very important to keep your heart and mind positive. Management of hearts and minds from internal and external factors. In recognizing and controlling one's own emotions and maintaining attitudes and words towards others.

4. Writing and reading therapy

This is an activity that has a very big and meaningful impact on me. Moreover, I don't have a place to vent, so pouring out my heart in writing is the best way I've ever tried. I try to write regularly every day so that my thoughts and emotions are diverted and away from the burdens that have been making me depressed.

I became lost in putting together words and forgot the things I was worried about. If I have written one topic, it is always accompanied by ideas for other topics so that I continue to be motivated to write various things. Writing articles also makes me have to read so I become more relaxed and calm. When my heart and mind are calm, then I start to feel sleepy and sleep until morning.

Currently, many health therapists recommend that everyone write a journal in their life. This is because the benefits of writing are so great that even health workers do this routine. One of my acquaintances who works as a health worker said on his blog that he writes every day for his own mental health. It doesn't matter if it's a personal issue or story. You can write it in a diary or on a blog. The point is to let go and release what you feel and what you think.

5. Learn to motivate yourself

So that I always think and feel positive, I always try to generate motivation within myself. For example, reading books and watching videos that contain motivation and inspiration. I like coming to cheap book bazaars to collect motivational books. Apart from that, he also likes writing motivational words in his diary. This activity makes me excited. I am confident that I can face and deal with existing life problems. Yup, a problem that makes me depressed and stressed.

I once read that there is a superpower behind words. If someone believes that they will be able to recover from insomnia, then by Allah's permission they will be cured. Believe in yourself, believe in yourself and keep trying. Make plans for the future that you want to achieve and imagine how happy it will be one day to achieve them. If you continue to experience insomnia then all your dreams will just be wishful thinking.

***

Insomnia is very detrimental in my opinion. What's worse, it's already hard to sleep at night and also hard to sleep during the day. Of course this will be very dangerous. The impact is not only physical but also psychological which affects the future.

Don't underestimate the problem of insomnia so that life can be more meaningful for once. Identify why you have insomnia then try to look deep within yourself, God and nature.

Hopefully this article is useful for all friends in overcoming the insomnia they suffer from. Let's fight to return ourselves to our nature because that way we can live free from psychological and physical disorders and illnesses []
